Applied Research and Education System

Home

ARES mission is within it's name. Our focus is on educating those in the practical application of our research. This means that we use intellectual, philosophical, and physical methods of research to determine the techniques and approaches to martial arts that are the most practical for the most people. We then take our applied research and educate, so there is an understanding of the principal and not just a copy of the performance. ARES is for everyone of upstanding character with a desire to learn, apply, and protect themselves and all they have achieved.
About
  • Jun Fan\Jeet Kune Do -  A hybrid martial arts system and life philosophy founded by world renowned martial artist Bruce Lee in 1967 with direct, non classical and straightforward movements. The system works on the use of different 'tools' for different situations. These situations are broken down into ranges (Kicking, Punching, Trapping and Grappling), with techniques flowing smoothly between them. It is referred to as a "style without style". Unlike more traditional martial arts, Jeet Kune Do is not fixed or patterned, and is a philosophy with guiding thoughts. It was named for the concept of interception, or attacking your opponent while he is about to attack. However the name Jeet Kune Do was often said by Bruce Lee to be just a name. He himself often referred to it as "The art of expressing the human body."
  • Kali\Escrima\Arnis - A class of Filipino martial arts that emphasize weapon-based fighting with sticks, blades and improvised weapons. Although training starts with weapons, empty hand techniques, trapping and limb destruction are core parts of these arts as the weapon is considered merely an extension of the body.
  • Silat - A collective word for indigenous martial arts of the Malay Archipelago and Malay Peninsula of Southeast Asia. Originally developed in Indonesia, there are hundreds of different styles but they tend to focus either on strikes, joint manipulation, bladed weapons, throws, animal-based techniques, or some combination thereof.
  • Muay Thai - The "Art of Eight Limbs" or the "Science Of Eight Limbs" because it makes use of punches, kicks, elbows and knee strikes, thus using eight "points of contact",  It is a combat sport from Thailand, that uses stand-up striking along with various clinching techniques.
  • Savate - A French martial art which uses the hands and feet as weapons combining elements of western boxing with graceful kicking techniques.
  • Kenpo - a system of martial arts created by Ed Parker, characterized by the use of quick moves in rapid-fire succession intended to overwhelm an opponent. It is largely marketed as a self-defense system, and is derived from traditional Japanese martial art and other martial arts such as Southern Chinese kung fu found in the cultural melting pot of Hawaii.
  • Shooto - A mixed martial art developed by Sotaru Sayama utilizing techniques from kick boxing, Jujitsu, and wrestling.
  • Catch Wrestling - a style of Folk wrestling that was developed and popularised in the late 19th century by the wrestlers of traveling carnivals who incorporated submission holds, or "hooks", into their wrestling to increase their effectiveness against their opponents. Catch wrestling derives from a number different styles, the English style of Lancashire Catch-as-Catch-Can Wrestling, Irish Collar-and-elbow, Greco-Roman Wrestling styles of the Indian Subcontinent, such as Pehlwani and Iranian styles such as Varzesh-e Pahlavani.
  • Jujitsu - The "gentle art" is Japanese martial art and a method of close combat for defeating an armed and armored opponent in which one uses no weapon, or only a short weapon.
  • Sambo - A Russian martial art and combat sport. The word "SAMBO" is an acronym for SAMooborona BezOruzhiya, which literally translates as "self-defense without weapons". Sambo is relatively modern since its development began in the early 1920s by the Soviet Red Army to improve their hand to hand combat abilities. Intended to be a merger of the most effective techniques of other martial arts, Sambo has roots in Japanese judo and karate plus traditional folk styles of wrestling such as: Armenian Kokh, Georgian Chidaoba, Romanian Trântă, Tafar Köräş, Uzbek Kurash, Mongolian Khapsagay, and Azerbaijani Gulesh.
